Allow the DJ in you to breakfree! July 20, 2010 R. Patel (Texas) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I'm a vinyl person at heart, but I do know that digital is the future. I've played around with a few DJ mixing software including Deckadance, which this software is based on.
Firstly, this is less than half the price of Deckadance, but it has all the tools to get you started in the Digital DJ'ing world. It allows you to create playlists, sample recordings, previews and customise to your hearts content. The key thing is it supports all popular audio formats around and also has the key ability to import your songs/playlists from iTunes.
If you are a beginner then you'll need to read the pdf guide and also check out some of the tutorials on the MAGIX site. there is a wealth of info you can find on Deckadance, so you can start there as they are similar products, albeit this is a cut down version.
The great thing about this software is that it has mufin technology whereby the software will scan and find tracks that are similar in nature, this inturn makes mixing tracks allot easier. However, the key to DJ'ing is to know all this anyway. But, it is good for total beginners out there.(would get you started for small parties/occassions etc).
I recommend a sound card with 2 headphone outputs, so you can preview your stuff, before you start playing it(like a pro).
This software has all the tools a pro has, like a low pass or comb filter; a kill function for fading etc, match beats with visual beat analyser, so a beat with 120bpm is matched with a track that has similar beat count and so forth.
It is easy once you get the hang of it and you'll be churning out professional mixes like a pro in a few months, persistence is the keys, but if your serious about it, you'll get the hang of it in no time.
Wow ... excellent!!! July 21, 2010 Jimbo (London) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Got this to replace a similar product I bought from Ebay and this blows the other software away! The graphics and interface are top-notch, it is a doddle to install and you can figure out what to do by playing around. If you are more serious about DJing you would probably need to read the guide though. I would class myself as an amateur/beginner and it is quite easy to use. It works fine with itunes and the best feature is the mufin technology which generates a list of similar tracks for ease of mixing. The only downside to this product is that the packaging feels and looks a little cheap, apart from that its amazing!!!
Better than cheaper titles, not quite truely for the 'pro'... July 22, 2010 DJ Bez 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I received this software having been using a (very old) version of TRAKTOR for several years, in fact I couldn't even tell you if it is available any more! (I've just checked and its going strong, but a bit newer tham my V1.2!)Through Amazon, I've tried a few titles that turn your PC into a mixing deck, but this this is the only one so far that comes close to TRAKTOR.
The interface is not as intuitive as they'd (the publishers) like to think, but puts TRAKTOR to shame. A bit of a learning curve and most users who have the skills to mix will be able to use this program I think. As for professional, well, its good, but it just feels a little bit flimsy every now and then in a way that TRAKTOR doesn't. By that, I mean I can imagine it crashing during a set, if you were going to use it for that sort of thing. According to another reviewer, this software is based upon a popular DJ engine known as Deckadance, which I haven't heard of. But it seems to be a good inplementation!
Great fun for a beginner like me August 16, 2010 Silverfrog (Leeds UK) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I'm absolutely new to DJing and have found this software a lot of fun and well set out. I have a new found respect for DJ's as it's sometimes quite hard however this software makes it relatively easy to match appropriate songs to mix with. The sofware installed very quickly and with no problems. If you've got most of your music in Itunes then you can directly access these at a click of a button. If you import your music then this can take time - I've got quite a small collection of music and it took about 5 minutes to import so if you've got a large library you can expect it to take quite some time. Having said this, once it's loaded into the software, you can access the whole list very quickly and it also analyses each track so it knows the type of beat each song has.
The sofware has 'Mufin' technology which apparently matches songs that go well with ones that you are playing and I had a lot of fun with loop and leap buttons. If you left click on either of these then the music will either loop or leap continously until you release the button or if you right click it will automatically continue doing it until you click again. Loop repeats the section of music which you can change to loop a longer or smaller section of music and then continues from the end of the loop. Leap is a lot of fun where it loops a section of music but the music continues playing underneath this so when you release the loop funcition the music resumes as if you hadn't done anything.
There are so many functions that I haven't tried yet but am looking forward to. One thing I have noticed is that having used both a normal optical wheel mouse and a trackball, i've found it far easier using the trackball to mess around with. Especially if you intend to use the function that looks like each track is actually record spinning on a table top. You can then hold the record of a track and then 'scratch' backwards and forwards very easily.
I'm not sure what pro dj's would think of it but it seems like a reasonable price and the great thing is that you don't damage any of your music as you might do with real records. Good fun overall.
Does what it says on the box August 10, 2010 Mark Regan (Cumbria) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
This piece of software does exactly what it claims, the interface could do with being a little clearer but it installed quickly and easily, the function to autoatically scan your tracks isn't that quick but considering that it is analysing the beats per minute of each track that is a lot of information to process. If you are just adding tracks from a directory with the analysis off than its very very quick indeed, the auto mixer options seem to work really well and that was fine for me, I could run a disco with this software, my laptop, a hard drive with a few thousand mp3's and a PA system. I did have a ply with the beat detect auto function, but as this changes the speed of the second track to match the speed of the first you end up (with my music anyway) with the Ramones being slowed to match Frank Zappa which means that it sounds all wrong, but it isn't designed for that so the beat match function works really well. Other niggles are that I can't seem to edit a list once in the player, so you need to make sure your playlists are spot on (I may have missed it). Other than that it seems to work very very well and if you are looking for any DJ software then this could be the one for you.
