Movie Studio 9 Delivers September 25, 2008 Undertaker (UK) 83 out of 83 found this review helpful
I had this product shipped directly from Sony USA as I needed it to work on a wedding video I recently shot.
I already own Movie Studio 8 Plat edition and have upgraded so that I can work in 1920x1080 video and export directly to Blu-ray.
It's an amazing piece of software and I can thoroughly recommend it for the semi-pro/competent amateur. The pro's would naturally be looking at Vegas Pro, but for less than £100 I can hardly think of a more advanced package.
I am using a Sony SR12E camcorder and have output a few projects in high defintion using Vegas and it really has to be seen to be believed. High quality output really is at your fingertips.
Regarding system stability, I have never had either Plat 8 or Plat 9 versions crash yet and you can use anything from a P4 processor upwards to get decent results. The only thing is that the renders can be very time consuming (especially in high def), and the preview can be jerky/glitchy but this is just a side effect of very processor heavy stuff!
Brilliant software.
Sony Vegas studio 9 platinum pro May 21, 2009 K. F. Warrillow (Staffordshire, UK) 24 out of 24 found this review helpful
After much research and reading of other reviews I finally decided to go for the Sony platinum pro pack. Some comments suggested it may be complicated but though I am a newcomer to video editing I have managed to produce my first short video with only minimal assistance of the help and "show me how" buttons.
Two things finally decided me on Sony Vegas platinum. First was the inclusion of "Sound Forge". I wanted to have a lot of control over the audio for my music tracks and this is a great audio editing package which can be used stand alone or it integrates perfectly as part of the video production.
Second was the system requirements. My pc is four years old now and close to minimum spec, running Windows XP with 2 Ghz processor and 512MB RAM. Other products seemed to be more demanding for system requirements and crashes were often mentioned in reviews. I wanted something reliable so I was pleased to find this package works perfectly on my pc. When I am editing large HD video files, saving is slow and preview can be a little jerky but I put that down to the limitations of my pc which only just has minimum RAM for AVCHD; most importantly, I have had no crashes at all!

It might be stating the obvious, but if you're interested in this product (and you've got broadband) visit Sony's site and download the trial version. You can use the full product for 30 days. And at the end of that you will buy it. Or you'll download the Vegas Pro trial and use that for a further 30 days... Whichever, this is the most reliable video editing family of products I've ever used. The only real drawbacks I've found with this cut-down version are its limited compression options for MPEG2 encoding (there aren't really any) and some fairly limited compositing options.
HD EDITING May 28, 2009 Mr. John Robertshaw 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I ALREADY HAD PINNACLE 11+ BUT FOUND IT NOT UP TO THE JOB WITH HD FOOTAGE.
SINCE BUYING A HD VIDEO CAMERA(MINI DV)THE SONY SOFTWARE ALLOWS ME TO EDIT IN HD BEFORE RETURNING IT TO MY CAMERA AND THEN PLAYING IT ON MY TV
WITH SUPERB RESULTS. WELL WORTH THE MONEY. JOHN ROBERTSHAW

Well after weeks of dithering I went for Vegas Movie Studio 9 Pro instead of Adobe Premiere Element (too many bad reviews from the users).
A bit of a warning this isn't an instant Drag & Drop Video editing program you got to learn how to use it. If you want the former use Microsoft Movie maker it is free with your Microsoft operating system.
I owne Premiere pro 1.5 but was too expensive to upgrade to use AVCHD files.
I am learning how to use the program as I go along as it work in different ways than Premiere but that was expected.
It is easy to use, the editing is very much like any other program, you just get more control than the basic VE programs, the rendering is quick on a fast PC and the end result is good.
As I haven't a Blu-ray burner yet I only made some DVD and files on HDD but they all finalized correctly.
The DVD Authoring software works well and easy to use.I haven't yet use Soundforge.
I will certainly upgrade to Vegas Studio Pro in a near future to create Blu-ray.
For the techy here my PC spec.
